FMX Futures Exchange Milestones

January: FMX Futures Exchange receives CFTC approval to operate an exchange for U.S. Treasury and SOFR futures. FMX launches trading in SOFR futures, the world’s largest notional futures contract. Acquisition of Sage Energy Partners: BGC acquires Sage Energy Partners, LP, an energy and environmental brokerage specializing in refined products, biofuels, ethanol, emissions, renewables, NGLs, and petrochemicals. BGC Partners, Inc. acquired Trident Brokerage Services Llc on February 27, 2023. BGC completes its corporate conversion to a full corporation. Company name changes from BGC Partners, Inc. to BGC Group, Inc., trading under ticker BGC. BGC Group, Inc. completed the acquisition of Continental Capital Markets SA on November 1, 2023. BGC acquires Ginga Petroleum (Singapore) Pte Ltd, a broker of physical and derivative energy products. Fenics Market Data becomes the exclusive distributor of data from Ginga Petroleum’s energy brokerage operations.

Acquisition of Poten & Partners

BGC acquires Poten & Partners Group, Inc., a leading ship brokerage and intelligence firm focused on LNG, tanker, and LPG markets. Fenics Market Data becomes the exclusive distributor of market data and intelligence derived from Poten & Partners’ brokerage activities. Launch of FMD-branded best-of-breed datasets across Rates, FX, and IRO. Introduction of Solutions datasets, providing capital-backed order and trade data from OTC trading venues.

2017

Launch of FENICS UST, marking BGC’s return to the U.S. electronic trading market (Treasuries).

2016

GFI Consolidation and Additional Acquisitions

January: BGC completes the GFI back-end merger, consolidating 100% ownership. BGC acquires Sunrise Brokers Group, an independent financial brokerage with a strong reputation in equity derivatives and other asset classes. BGC Market Data becomes the exclusive distributor of all market data generated from GFI and subsequent financial services acquisitions.

2015

Acquisition of GFI Group

In February, BGC announces the successful completion of its tender offer for the shares of GFI Group it did not already own. GFI Group is a major intermediary and provider of trading technologies and support services to global OTC and listed markets. This transaction represents the largest acquisition in BGC’s history. BGC Market Data is rebranded as Fenics Market Data.

2014

Acquisition of RP Martin Group Assets

December 2014: BGC acquires the UK assets and subsidiaries of RP Martin Group, one of the world’s oldest inter-dealer brokers, specializing in European rates and FX. 2015: BGC acquires RP Martin’s Swedish and Dutch assets. BGC Market Data becomes the exclusive distributor of all market data generated by RP Martin businesses across the UK, Sweden, and the Netherlands.

LATAM Expansion

BGC acquires Liquidez, adding additional Latin American asset classes to its brokerage and data offerings.

2006

Acquisition of Aurel Leven Securities

In October, BGC Partners acquires Aurel Leven Securities, a French broker specializing in equities, fixed income, and derivatives. BGC Market Data becomes the exclusive distributor of market data generated from Aurel Leven’s businesses.

2005

Expansion in Europe

BGC Partners merges with Euro Brokers, significantly enhancing its broker network and strengthening its presence in London.

2004

Formation of BGC Partners

BGC Partners is formed, named after B. Gerald Cantor, founding partner of Cantor Fitzgerald (est. 1945). In August, Cantor Fitzgerald separates its voice brokerage business to form BGC Partners, L.P., creating a standalone global brokerage platform. Cantor Market Data is rebranded as BGC Market Data.

Cantor Market Data Founded

Cantor Fitzgerald establishes Cantor Market Data, laying the foundation for what would later evolve into Fenics Market Data. The business launches with an initial team of three employees.
